We specialize in Basement Remodeling for the Columbus Ohio area. After two decades of home remodeling, I have several tips that will help you get the most for your money.

When choosing a contractor look for the following:

Someone that will listen to your desires for your new space and give you any advice on what would look and function best.

Look for the best value for your home improvement. If you check with a few contractors for estimates, You will find some will give you very low estimates. Our experience suggests that there is a catch… don’t fall into that trap. Low offers often mean somewhere there is an upsale in their pitch or the quality is sub-par. Go with value and a good reasonable estimate.

Make sure the start and finish date of the project seems reasonable and fits with in your schedule. Ask if all work is fully guaranteed and the work site is fully insured.

Look for use of quality materials and craftsmanship. Construction should be done like building a new house: 2 X 4 walls, insulation, vapor barrier, full electrical, dry wall, wood moldings, specialty lights, and glass block windows. Ask about customized items such as; bathrooms, wet bars, entertainment centers, desk and computer units and cedar closets. If you as the customer have preferences in building materials etc. please feel free to offer them during your consultation as well.

And before you make your decision:
Ask for referrals. All contractors that have been in business for a while should have a list of satisfied customers that would be happy to talk with you about their experience. Make sure you are able to talk with previous customers to get a good feel for the type of work and service the contractor provides.
